In Manchester, we have many choices for grocery shopping. Of course, this depends on several factors such as: budget, location, and product availability. Below you can find several choices in which many Indonesians in Manchester do their grocery shopping:
General Grocery
1. ASDA – this is absolutely the most popular destination for students and professionals alike. aside from their large superstore, in general, the prices are cheaper compared to others such as tesco and sainsbury. (100 Princess Road, Manchester, M15 5AS)

2. TESCO – Tesco can be found in several locations in the City Centre, and a few bigger stores just on the outskirts of the city centre. Prices aren’t as cheap as ASDA but it will fulfill most people’s shopping lists and they are quite easy to find. (58-66 Market St, Manchester / 260 Wilmslow Rd, Manchester)

3. SAINSBURY – they might lack in price, but they make up in location. Sainsbury is just all over the city. Hence, the stores are not big but should accomodate last minute shopping for your main grocery ingredients (egg, bread, milk, cereal, pasta, etc) (1 Whitworth Street West, Manchester, M1 5LH / Piccadilly Station, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M1 2PB)

4. LIDL – Lidl sells secondary products (i.e. not so well known brands) and their prices are cheap as well. They sell everything from fresh produce to lightbulbs, and, if quality is not your top priority, this is the place to shop. Also, Lidl is conveniently located in Arndale Market (Oxford Road, Wilmslow Park , Manchester, Greater Manchester M13 9RN)

5. ALDI – Located between the Manchester Hospital and rusholme, Aldi is a real gem. Just about everything is cheap here from snacks, pasta, drinks, wines, etc. However, I don’t think they sell any fresh produce/meat. (Arndale Centre 67-71 Market Street, City Centre, Manchester, M4 2EA)
SPECIALTY GROCERY

1. Woo Sang -This is absolutely the place for chinese and other asian products. They simply have everything here. At first, the cramped spaces might through you off, but it has served us students and professionals well with its many choices of rice, noodles, seafood products, “bumbu-bumbu” as well as your usual asian veggies. Prices are affordable. (19-21 George Street, China Town, Manchester M1 4HE)

2. W.H. Lung – W.H. Lung is another great destination for asian grocery shopping. In addition to their large selections, they also sell household items such as frying pans, utensils, rice cookers, etc. Location is conveniently located in the University area just behind University Place, but Prices are not as cheap s Woo Sang. (53-57 Upper Brook Street Manchester Lancashire M13 9TD)

3. WorldWide – this is also a great place set in Rusholme. it is the ultimate grocerer for buying meat and poultry. not only they are cheap, they are also fresh, just make sure you come early as many of the popular meat/poulty are gone by the end of the day. they also have many products that are specific to the middle east and india, just in case you want to experiment a little bit of biriani rice or some lamb/chicken curry. (401 Great Western Street. Manchester. M14 4AH)
